Week Three The One Room Challenge: Adventures in Room Colors

Kevin here.

My wife signed us up for the Better Homes and Garden One Room Challenge, which involves doing a complete makeover of one of our bedrooms. That  means 2 things-

  1.     lots of lively discussion over breakfast going over creative differences and
  2.     dealing with a much more discerning eye than my regular customers.

Since we live in Florida now we decided to lighten it up by using a natural lime based plaster product (#Glimmerstone) for the walls which has a lot of character. This week has been all about coming up with  colors, keying off some bedding my wife wanted to work around while figuring out other softer colors to complement.  After a few color tries we decided on a vibrant green for the dressers. Since we are offsetting this by painting the drawers in an off-white you get a nice pop of the green without it being overwhelming.

Now we are onto tying up some of the other elements,. We had already matched the plaster color and painted the ceiling and doors that off-white color to tie together. For the trim, since the walls were light we didn't want them to look washed out so we used a flat paint in a latte color that pulled in some of the elements of the coarse plaster. So far so good.
