The Molto Bene One Room Challenge 2020 -- Master Bedroom

Moltobene wife here. I don't know how it is at your house, but I have found that living with a creative person like Kevin means that one thing that needs changing around the house often leads to a creative explosion of projects and ideas.

Like our master bedroom.  Now mind you, this is not the time we would normally choose to redecorate a room. Both budget and time are tight. But our faithful old dressers, after many years of service, broke down.  Tried to figure out how to fix them with our expert handymen friends and it wasn't happening. OK, new dressers then. Have to be inexpensive.

At the same time, we are living in Florida during a pandemic. Interior air quality was very much on our mind. Humidity is a problem here. We have been advised that keeping humidity between 40% and 60% was the best range for health and keeping mold from forming. We were going over 60% at certain times in this room. A limestone based wall finish is supposed to help because it is breathable and highly mold-resistant. Hmmm, 3-4 grand for a humidifier or does Kevin break out the trowel?

So since we are doing a new wall finish and getting a new dresser, new colors right? Because of course when you do wall finishes that is the first thing you think of in any room! And now the curtains won't work, and the lamps have to go, and haven't we been thinking the nightstands were horrible . . .

The upshot was we decided to make a bedroom redo work within our time/money constraints, but make it a game to see how little money we could spend and how much creativity we could apply. Since Kevin is so good at anything with paint or plaster, I know we will end up with something that makes us happy.

Our morning coffee conversation is now about the latest thing we thought of for the bedroom, which is a pretty cool way to start the day. To spread that out more, I thought it would be fun to follow along with the #OneRoomChallenge that #BetterHomesandGardens is sponsoring and get inspiration and ideas from other participants who are in the same mindset.

We started with a wall finish sample board recently received -- Glimmerstone from Firenze Enterprises.  Our master bedroom had a very pretty, sparkly JaDecor finish and I couldn't quit the idea of some sparkle, but maybe we could back it down. ( yeah, in general, we will never quit JaDecor. It's in many different rooms in our house!) With a very subtle amount of glitter, the Glimmerstone looked neat. Kevin liked it. First big decision made.

Since we had warm colors before, naturally I wanted to flip it around to cool colors. Our original color palette was going to be off-white, gray and blue, but naturally, once we saw it together in real life, we have changed our minds and we are now going toward greens -- at least today! So maybe it's not the most organized way to approach redecorating, but it sure is fun!

The one room challenge goes for six weeks, so we will be showing more of our in-progress one room challenge here on the blog and on Instagram. If y'all have any questions on the finishes, etc. let us know! And if you follow the link to the ORC site, you can see other cool rooms!
