Creating a Bohemian look

Ciao! For years we created unique (and expensive) wall finishes in high-end homes.  Besides showing you these finishes, projects and products in these posts, we will shortly be offering you a “You Can Do It” finish -- one of our finishes that you can do yourself with a little help from us. This is for anyone -- a painter, DIYer or designer who would like to create a really special effect in a room without the usual cost. We'll also be offering a  "Godfather" mentoring type program in the near future, if you want a little more help.  For more details or to get started, email us at kevin@moltobenewalls.com.  Now, let's take a look at a unique home we did.

Hilltop home Northern California
Here's a  great job we did with a relatively easy finish.  We did this job for an interior designer in California who had purchased a hilltop villa in serious need of rehab. After purchasing her home, she spent a month in Spain traveling, touring and visiting many buildings there for inspiration she could take home with her. She was a designer with very eclectic tastes and a love of art, so we settled on a finish that created a unified look throughout the house, using two tones. We used Sandstone, a Faux Effects International product that had minerals (and also crushed walnut shells I believe) embedded in the material. We did this finish throughout the house -- which made a nice backdrop for all the cool (and different) art and furnishings. The texture in the wall finish did a lot toward creating the unique, Bohemian, artistic look the designer was going for.

We executed colored plaster on lower portion of walls
The color selected for plaster matches trim color

Very fun and different house. I would recommend Sandstone for homes where you are going for a bohemian, rustic or contemporary look  This material is also very easy to repair, which is a big deal and a point often missed  (“Finish looks great now but what happens when my kid whacks a hole in the wall fighting with his brother?”) ( This actually happened.)  Anyway – there you go. Ok stay tuned for more info on "You Can Do This!" program!
