Two tone painting for cabinets and furniture

We've talked about refinishing cabinets and furniture in our last few blogs and the different ways one can do this. However one of the more unique and aesthetic ways you can go about this is two tone painting. This involves picking two complementary colors,  painting the frame one color and the doors and drawers another. This provides quite a bit more depth and dimension while also being very aesthetically pleasing if done right and this look works well with many different décors. You can find many pictures and examples of this on Pinterest. ,

One offshoot of this is a combination of paint and stain.  Find a complementary color to use on a cabinet or furniture frame, and then strip and refinish the doors with a complementary stain color that shows the wood grain.

Whether kitchen cabinets or furniture, the right combination can really make a unique and pleasing statement in any space. Cost-wise, this sort of technique falls in between what it would cost to just paint over the cabinets and what it would cost to completely strip and re-stain all surfaces. The doors or drawers can be stripped and re-stained with the frames painted. You can find examples of this also on sites like Pinterest. Here's a few samples. Pretty nice huh?
