Colors of the Year 2015

COLOR OF THE YEAR

What is the Color of the Year for 2015?  That depends on who you are talking to.

There are authorities on color who make decisions and issue press releases on these sort of things. But to be honest, it's hard to think of anything more subjective than color.  You can stand three people in a freshly painted room:  One loves it, one hates it and the third doesn’t care.

Three major players issued their color choices for 2015, which will show you the wide divergence in thought on this subject:

Pantone Color of the Year: Marsala - an earthy wine red with red brown roots

Benjamin Moore Color of the Year: Guilford Green - a silvery green

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year: Coral Reef - a mélange of pink orange and red.
We have picked two of these colors that we've had some experience using.

Marsala. A very earthy red brown color. We use these sort of deeper tones sparingly, but they have worked well in dining rooms and a master bedroom that required a cozy, but still elegant, look.  The medium the color is used in also plays big in the effect. We used this color in Lusterstone plaster in a luxury condo in Chicago, creating a very nice effect. And we have used it in a couple of dining rooms to good effect. So we can recommend Marsala as an interior color to offer in the coming year.

Guilford Green. A silvery green. This offers a completely different look. You are able to use it in much larger areas as a backdrop without losing a lot of light. It is a very calming color. We like it a lot for bigger spaces and have utilized it in a few different jobs using different types of plaster- Lusterstone, Venetian and Marmorino.

Coral Reef. The Sherwin Williams color choice we haven’t used. While it is a cheerful color, it reminds me of a few years back when Pantone chose Tangerine Dream as their color of the year. Might work best as an accent color?

While it is fun to see what the “news and wonderfuls” are, when it comes to color whether for you or a client you want colors that will stand the test of time, essentially colors that are pleasing  year in and year out.  We can help you determine what is going to work best in your space through sampling.

ACCENT WALLS

Accent walls are back in a big way. They allow you to use exclusive and expensive special finishes along with paint in a way that greatly enhances the look of a room while keeping within a budget. We'll be talking about this a lot in 2015.

Ciao
