Life's a Beach - Our Recent Longboat Key Project
If you
can't spend a day at the beach, the next best thing is working on a
home that is right on the beach.
One of
our recent projects was for John Cannon Homes. They were building a 13,000 sf plus beach-front home on Longboat Key which
just recently sold for 7 million dollars.
The
house had a 3 level circular entry and staircase which needed
some wow factor. This is where we come in. We started with a rough, concrete staircase and surrounding walls for the entry. Where would the finish start and stop?
We work
with many different materials from Italy, Morocco, Germany, Japan, US
etc. We decided to use Grassello, which is a very smooth
Venetian plaster. Many people have a fixed idea that Venetian plaster can only be used in earth tones to create “Tuscan villas” or in deep colors to create bright shiny walls. We prefer a rich, subtle, sophisticated look color,
texture and finish wise; so we were quite happy when the designers
for John Cannon picked an off white color from a Sherwin Williams paint deck which we were able to match. ( Note: nowadays we can pretty much
match any color from a standard Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore deck).
We
decided the best way to address the rough staircase (underside of stairs and so on) was to prepare it
in such a way so that
we could use the same material for the walls of the stairwell to make
the look smooth and continuous.
Here's some initial shots, which as you can see created a nice backdrop for the beautiful tile and appointments. We got our wow factor ( the house was sold, can't get any more wow than that).

Hope to
have some furnished shots in the near future.
