Colors of the Caribbean
So
what’s the deal with the Caribbean? Just spent two weeks there, and the people were all cheerful,
relaxed, enjoying life etc.
OK,
most people are in vacation mode when they get there, but I have been
to many “vacation spots”
which did not create the same effect. Some people would say it’s
the beaches, or the water etc. which would be true, but I have my own take on it.
Caribbean colors and texture create a scenic background quite unlike anywhere
else.
Being
closer to the equator might play a role. The
colors are vibrant and reminiscent of the sun and the sea. Turquoise
waters, crystal blue skies, the color of flamingos ranging from pink
to orange to crimson, the lush greens of the vegetation, stone white
beaches stretching out -- colors
and spaces conveying a mood and feel unlike anywhere else I have been.
How
to capture this in your home?
I have included a few pictures for inspiration here. Obviously you can go on line or get
photo books for more. Since
the vast majority of our work is done in Florida and California, both
lend themselves to warm environments that include a lot of ocean. Local design magazines often incorporate
these colors into their design schemes. I know here at home we will
be incorporating a Caribbean blue into our kitchen.
The
bottom line is these colors and textures from the Caribbean are
bright, cheerful and alive, so unless the knob on your color dial is
frozen on off white, you might want to check them out.
